Flashback

I was rummaging through my stuff this morning and I rediscovered my journals as early as 1995. It started as a requirement in school (Math Journals) until I decided to maintain a gratitude journal in college as inspired by Oprah. Its not that I write everyday. I just write whenever I can

And so, here are my July 31st entries ...

Thank you Lord for these two days, being able to talk with Maan, chat with Elaine, do and read codes for our project, read e-mail be touched with Mark Greene's last episode for ER, for a successful (?) and funny GP2W Bisaya presentation. Please continue to bless us and our family and friends.

Thank you dear Lord for hearing my prayers and just being there. I thank you for JJ having fun with Paolo and Diko (thanks to Tito Paul), for the mass we attended, for lunch last Saturday with Mom and Dad, for "Cheaper by the Dozen" and "Something's Gotta Give", for my not so bad recitation in Legal Research, for fun with the internet, for being able to speak with Maia and Jan. Without ... this is hard .. I just hope things would work out between (names omitted) ... It's just so hard to be caught in the middle :(

Thank you for today Lord, for the things I was able to do, digest cases for Lab Rel and Succession, for no class in Succession, for Dad fetching me since there was rain, for invitation from Felai for K1 (sayang, next time na lang), for people who paid for the transcription, for people who appreciate what I do, for Ate Cherry being back in law school, for no brownout (almost!). Thanks for everything Lord :)

*haircut - only a few noticed, hehe

I guess it's just nice to have that flashback and appreciate how time flies ;)

Don't Stop Believin'

Since Wednesday night, this song has been ringing in my head.

I was even quietly humming it today when my students were having their quiz. And it was the song playing on the radio as me and my sister were on our way home.

So, I can't help if I post the lyrics here. I love GLEE!

Just a small town girl
livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere

A singer in a smoky room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the nights
Streetlights, people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the nights

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time

Some will win, some will lose
Some are born to sing the blues
And now the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Don't stop believin
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight, people
(repeat)

Don't stop!

Girl and TV

I am actually in a bind about what to blog this time.

I have been thinking of writing about students, food, Valentine's Day (the movie .. and sige na nga, the day itself .. ahem .. hehe), bar (bar what?), Survivor, PBB, etc, etc and so forth.

But thinking about my topics, I think I could hit many birds (isn't this animal cruelty? ngayon ko lang narealize after saying this for such a long time!) with one stone by putting into one blog one of my favorite topics .. TV!!!

PBB Season 3 is over and done. Paul Jake was my favorite but I do not harbour any ill feelings against Melai. She did make me laugh for months! But of course, I really have to comment about how Melai votes were encouraged .. by showing that Paul Jake was leading (with a huge margin!) around 5 days before the Big Night. Oh well, I really cannot take much against it since I really don't vote .. hehe ;)

Last night I felt that weeknights on TV are now boring without PBB.

But talk about perfect timing. Amazing Race started just yesterday. CSI: Las Vegas will begin its new season on AXN starting Feb 24. Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains started last week. And American Idol is on every Wednesdays and Thursdays. And of course, there's Glee.

So, I think I'm back to my old habit of knowing what day it is by taking note of what was shown the other night. I had this habit while reviewing for the CPA Board Exam and while I was working as a computer programmer.

Thus, here is my TV sked (week nights that is:)
Monday - Amazing Race
Tuesday - I haven't figured what show to watch on this night though .. hehe
Wednesday - Glee, American Idol and CSI:Las Vegas (soon)
Thursday - American Idol
Friday - Survivor

Saturday & Sunday - let's just wait and see ;)

May 2009

Review, review, review ...

My preparation for the Bar Exams has become full blown. As much as possible, I try not to be absent in class since I feel that I am more of a classroom person, in which I find that I can understand topics easily when discussed in class (of course, it also depends with the lecturer).

Nevertheless, I make time for American Idol. I am such a TV person!

I was able to write this down on my gratitude journal and I share this with you, my dear readers (as if .. hehe);

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Have faith in God. I assure you that you can say to this mountain, 'May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,' and your command will be obeyed. All that's required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart. Listen to me! You can pray for anything, and if you believe it, you will have it. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too" - Mark 11:22-25

Audition

I am fully aware that I have this running "joke" that I would audition for a reality TV show someday. Haha!

I am not sure how it started. But I can remember that during the last months I spent in Manila before moving back to Davao, 2 of my housemates and I would imagine that our lives are broadcast live. As such, our imaginary televiewers are privy to our bedtime conversations where we are all in bed and lights out but the conversations continue. We would end it by saying that we hope our "televiewers" learned something from us. Hilarious!

I know that I already said that its ok for me to join reality TV shows as long as it is not shown on TV .. huwat?!? What I mean is I am open to do the challenges they do but I hope it would not be shown on television. I wish!

Anyhow, when PBB Season became a success, I had this "hirit" that the reason why I entered law school was to gain more "fans" for whatever reality tv thing I would join. (Yah .. right!). As such, I could be a shoo-in as a winner if I could get the people I know to vote for me. The people I would hope that would vote for me will not only come from Davao but Manila as well, and from grade school, high school, college and law school buddies as well. A number of people were "supportive".

The next problem was how I could get in.

First, I am not a big fan of crowds and lines. Some alread volunteered to line up early for me.

Second, I do not have the "face", "body" or the "talent" na pang-artista. So, I must think of a story line. No, I will not use the usual melodramatic life stories. I would go for even happy and blessed people (char!) should be given a chance to join .. haha! Then, I would go for broke with my NBSB story .. hmm.

Third, if timing would be right and the show is PBB, the 100 days must take place within the time the bar results would come out (given na dito na nakagraduate ako and nagtake ng bar .. hay, unta jud soon na!). Then, I would be given the choice to know if I passed and to voluntarily exit to take the oath. Mao na jud! Haha!

Please don't take me seriously because seriously, I do not have plans to make this a reality. Promise! I am just sharing you how weird my imagination is.

My sisteres are weird as well.

The first time we saw the ad for the audition for PBB, my first reaction was "walay Davao!" And then, I said, "may GenSan and Butuan". My sister was thinking that I was really going to audition .. ngek! Although admittedly, this could be a "tripping" thing and some of us in class has discussed this .. haha!

A few days ago, I woke up with a newspaper clipping on my table. My sister placed it there for me to see that there will be an audition in Davao City for Survivor. Nge ulit!

Jologs na kung jologs tong blog na to. Epekto lang siguro sa Corpo exam kanina.

Promise .. I can't see myself auditioning for PBB or Survivor!

Pero ayoko magsalita ng tapos .. jowk lang!

Happy Day

I was able to finish my goal for today!
I almost was not able to achieve it because of some circumstances.
But as they say, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going!
I guess I really love what I am doing!

-oOo-

I enjoyed watching the 81st Oscar's! Hugh Jackman rocks - actors, dancer, singer, performer!
I was happy to see Jennifer Aniston with John Mayer at the Oscar's .. yehey!
Anne Hathaway is so pretty and has a really nice voice!
I love musicals. So, you cannot blame me if I was gushing over the musical presentation.
And those 5 previous winners on stage was a nice touch!

-oOo-

While I was driving on the way home, I sang "A Very Special Love" 3 times.
It was not because I was in the mood to really sing it, given that "You Changed My Life" will be showing soon (may commission na dapat ako nito ba!).
It was because the song was played over 3 radio stations one after the other.
As usual, I sang to my heart's delight and hoped that I would get to finish to sing the song before I arrived home.
Weird coincidence but happy nevertheless!

-oOo-

Watching TV is definitely my past time.
I do not consider it as an "attractive nuisance" but rather an energy charger!
I was happy I got to watch "The Amazing Race!".
I was wondering what to watch now that there is no more Pinoy Fear Factor.
But then, there's SNN .. hehe .. showbiz!

Events in life can be taken in different perspectives.
What pressures you actually motivates others to persevere.
What makes you nervous actually pushes you to do your best.
What distracts others actually inspires you.
Others may see you in panic mode.
But what matters is how you handle the situation.
Just show your greatest potential!

Here's looking forward to another happy day!

Amazing Race 13

I could not remember the last time I had so much butterflies in my stomach just watching Amazing Race, or any reality TV show for that reason.

For every season, I always pick my favorites. Sometimes, they make it. Sometimes, they don’t. That’s ok. I can deal with that. Usually, the most unlucky thing that could happen to a team is with regard to a cab – either having difficulty to get any or having a cab but getting lost in the way.

It’s a given that its most likely that a team composed of two alpha males would win. Next in line would be couples. I liked the family season where the siblings won – 1 girl with 3 brothers.

So, everytime there is a new season. I am hoping that an all-female team would win. However, I do not find most of the all-female teams worthy to cheer on. Next choice would always be parent-child team. It was interesting that last season, there was a father-daughter and grandfather-grandson teams in the final 3. They placed second and third respectively. Bummer.

Our family had a "discussion" a while ago about joining the Amazing Race. I do not doubt that my dad has the capacity to join. We were discussing who will bicker the most or who would they want as a team mate. Modesty aside, I think I was the easy choice for direction/map-reading purposes. However, I have given up my dream of being a part of these kind of reality contest due to my scoliosis. I don't think they would ever allow me. That's ok. I have already accepted that reality. Maybe in my next lifetime .. hehe

This season I was rooting for Toni and Dallas, the mother and son team. Next was Nick and Starr, the siblings.

I really had a bad feeling that Toni and Dallas would be booted tonight. The teasers showed that a team will lose their passports and money. It made me worry. At around 9 pm tonight, AXN was a no show and signal came back at 10 pm. I checked that there would be a 12mn replay. My sister and I waited for it.

It was excruciating. When I watched the teaser, I had an inkling that they were the ones who will lose it. When I watched the episode and Toni left the passport and money to Dallas (those were the instructions I think), I felt butterflies in my stomach. At the taxi, I saw Dallas put some stuff on top of his bag. When he left the cab, those stuff fell and Dallas realized that their stuff got stuck in the cab and it was too late to go after the cab. By the way, they were in Russia.

It was nice that there were Russians who gave money so that they could go on the race. And they did go on the race. But they were still the last team to arrive. I think Phil was quite sad when he said that they were the last team to arrive.

I think it was really nice of Toni for not scolding Dallas. I do not think it has something to do with the editing. Dallas really felt bad because I felt that he really wanted to win for his mom. Over-all, I really like their relationship in the sense that they know how blessed they are with each other. However, luck was not really on their side when they reached Russia.

Oh well .. that’s reality TV! So, it is Nick and Starr for the win. A win by the Dan and Andrew team, probably the luckiest team in the history of Amazing Race, will be the biggest upset ever.

So, I am really hoping JC won’t be eliminated tomorrow in Survivor Philippines. I have enough sadness over reality TV for this week and it’s still Monday.

House

I am hooked on House!

I just started watching House last Saturday on AXN and caught its 2nd episode last night. I think I like it because I learn so much for it. It's just weird that Dr. House would rather not be emotional and cure the patient, rather than be emotional with the patient and not being able to do anything about the illness. Just last night, he mentioned that he has beena doctor for 20 years .. wow! That's why it was easy for him to look at someone and know what's wrong, without even checking the person. The last two episodes delved on unusual illnesses or diseases but it was nice to know things that we usually take for granted. I learned that vaccination is really important, that medical history is life-saving, that medication can be damaging, that clef chin is hereditary.

Anyway, just a side-trip .. I am blessed that I have amom, who's celebrating her 50th birthday to day, for taking care of our House (connected pa rin!) and all of us as well ;)
