Slider

I consider myself a slider.

No, I am not talking about a person who loves to slide in the playground.

Slider - meaning: parati ma-slide, parati madapa.

I really think that I don't walk like a normal person. My shoes do not really last long. And you would notice that the heels of my shoes would be uneven and thin faster than an the shoes of an average person.

Madali rin akong matapilok. (Anong english ng tapilok?)

That's why I am not a fan of shoes with heels. I'm comfortable with flat shoes and rubber shoes.

But that does not mean na hindi na ako maslide pagmagrubber shoes ako.

Two instances come to mind.

I had a very public appearance as a slider in Makati sometime in 2002 or 2003. There was yet no walkway between Greenbelt and Landmark. There is a pedestrian lane and an island dividing the streets. And there is that area in that island where it's paved (no corners) for wheeled contraptions (strollers, bags, wheelchairs, etc.). We were coming from Greenbelt after attending a mass. And thus, there were a number of people crossing the street with us. Right there in the island .. na-slide ako. My left thigh hit the pavement. I didn't laugh. My companions did not laugh as well. More than the kaulaw, sakit baya! But I have to rise up and continue to walk .. alangan mag-drama-drama pa ko.

A few years back - though, I can't exactly remember when - our family just arrived from a flight. And in that same area for wheeled contraptions in the Arrival section of the Davao International Airport, na-slide ako. I think it was also my thigh that was hit hard. And yes, it was in full view of the well wishers of the new arrivals. Again, more than the kaulaw - sakid jud!

I have had other minor slider experience - 2 of which were right in our house. I can't remember other persons na naslide sa garahe namin kundi ako lang .. hahai .. jud!

Now, why I am blogging all these? Why am I reminiscing?

Just yesterday, at about noon, I just left the Faculty Resource Center on the 2nd Floor of the Finster building of AdDU. I was cleaning out my glasses because of the fog and I was really careful taking my steps. After I was finished cleaning my glasses and putting it on, I thought last step na iyon sa stairs. However, I miscalculated and missed one step. I was out of balance and then, epic fell! My face was on the floor and my knees were badly hurt. I stood up and cleaned myself. Sabi nga nila, it's not that you fall, but how you rise above it! O ha!

But I limped as I walked to my classroom. There were only two students whom I noticed (take note, iyong napansin ko lang) was around at the time I fell but they were not that near me to help me out that easily. Mabilis naman akong nakatayo. Pero masakit talaga!

My knees still hurt, especially the left one. I am putting cold compress to it right now, hoping there would be no bruise since I have a wedding to attend on Monday.

I will be wearing a knee-length dress.

And probably high-heeled shoes .. (oh, shoot!)
