Slider

I consider myself a slider.

No, I am not talking about a person who loves to slide in the playground.

Slider - meaning: parati ma-slide, parati madapa.

I really think that I don't walk like a normal person. My shoes do not really last long. And you would notice that the heels of my shoes would be uneven and thin faster than an the shoes of an average person.

Madali rin akong matapilok. (Anong english ng tapilok?)

That's why I am not a fan of shoes with heels. I'm comfortable with flat shoes and rubber shoes.

But that does not mean na hindi na ako maslide pagmagrubber shoes ako.

Two instances come to mind.

I had a very public appearance as a slider in Makati sometime in 2002 or 2003. There was yet no walkway between Greenbelt and Landmark. There is a pedestrian lane and an island dividing the streets. And there is that area in that island where it's paved (no corners) for wheeled contraptions (strollers, bags, wheelchairs, etc.). We were coming from Greenbelt after attending a mass. And thus, there were a number of people crossing the street with us. Right there in the island .. na-slide ako. My left thigh hit the pavement. I didn't laugh. My companions did not laugh as well. More than the kaulaw, sakit baya! But I have to rise up and continue to walk .. alangan mag-drama-drama pa ko.

A few years back - though, I can't exactly remember when - our family just arrived from a flight. And in that same area for wheeled contraptions in the Arrival section of the Davao International Airport, na-slide ako. I think it was also my thigh that was hit hard. And yes, it was in full view of the well wishers of the new arrivals. Again, more than the kaulaw - sakid jud!

I have had other minor slider experience - 2 of which were right in our house. I can't remember other persons na naslide sa garahe namin kundi ako lang .. hahai .. jud!

Now, why I am blogging all these? Why am I reminiscing?

Just yesterday, at about noon, I just left the Faculty Resource Center on the 2nd Floor of the Finster building of AdDU. I was cleaning out my glasses because of the fog and I was really careful taking my steps. After I was finished cleaning my glasses and putting it on, I thought last step na iyon sa stairs. However, I miscalculated and missed one step. I was out of balance and then, epic fell! My face was on the floor and my knees were badly hurt. I stood up and cleaned myself. Sabi nga nila, it's not that you fall, but how you rise above it! O ha!

But I limped as I walked to my classroom. There were only two students whom I noticed (take note, iyong napansin ko lang) was around at the time I fell but they were not that near me to help me out that easily. Mabilis naman akong nakatayo. Pero masakit talaga!

My knees still hurt, especially the left one. I am putting cold compress to it right now, hoping there would be no bruise since I have a wedding to attend on Monday.

I will be wearing a knee-length dress.

And probably high-heeled shoes .. (oh, shoot!)

That Thing You Do

After posting the happenings of my 2011, I made the most of the long weekend doing what I usually do - arranged my stuff (clothes, papers, etc.), checked my papers, ran some errands, did some pleadings, watched a movie and some tv shows - pretty much any normal weekend except that there is more time.

It's not that I am complaining because I don't think I am.

I just can't help looking at some stuff in my to do list which are quite out of the box or not much part of my usual weekend fare. I am not talking about long-term plans or goals - just little things.

I do hope I can accomplish these sooner (rather than later) ..... In no particular order:

  1. Donate blood - a very belated birthday gift for a dear friend
  2. Medical check-up - just to see if I am still ok with my sugar, blood pressure, etc. as well as with my scoliosis
  3. Swim - I know I should get more exercise and I know I always try to justify it with the steps I make whenever I have classes. But I guess I just miss swimming and I know that it is good for my back.
  4. Bake and/or Cook - I haven't cooked or baked for quite some time. And watching Masterchef and Top Chef shows doesn't help me from not wanting to do this soon.
  5. Organize my digital pictures and videos - I just want those to be placed in one external hard disk. Aside from that, I want to edit all the videos I have - with music and everything
  6. Go back to scrapbooking - looking at my stuff makes me want to start scrapbooking as soon as possible
  7. Transcribe MBE Lectures - I don't have definite plans yet but I want to finish what I started
  8. Update my IPOD - so I can sing anytime I would want to with accompaniment
  9. Watch Falling Skies, FRIENDS, ER, How I Met My Mother Series ,CSI, The X-Files Series , among other - Unlike movies, you have to watch these tv shows consistently.
  10. Write letters - As in handwritten letters - to celebrities and friends.
Let's how much I can accomplish ;)

December 2011

Huling Hirit!

'Tis the Season to be Jolly ... falalalalalalalala ...

It is indeed the season to be jolly as we celebrate Jesus Christ' Birth. Thank you Lord!

It was indeed a season to remember as we share GOD's love and blessings with family and friends!

We had simple noche buena at home and attended the mass together as a family on Christmas Day!

Pang-calendar .. hehe

I can't help but include this picture of my cute niece!

Before New Year, a gathering with my PWC batchmates .. o what fun!

Pwends!

Girls will run the world!

Classmates!

New Year's eve - bountiful indeed! I was extra happy since this time, I get to spend New Year's Eve with my family and Allan together ;) Thank you jud Lord!

Wacky na sab!

Jazzie, Allan and Blossom (Happy Birthday Blossom!)

However, through all these, tragedy struck in Cagayan De Oro, Iligan and some nearby cities. I was devastated. Who would not be? It was a good thing that our group of law school friends decided to concentrate on the flood victims in CDO and Iligan. I cannot put into other words how overwhelmed we were with the outpouring of donations - both money, water, used clothes and other goods - from our family and friends. We were just a small group and to know that we filled (almost) a small truck is truly overwhelming. All I can say is amazing and I continue to pray for recovery of those who suffered.

Repacking the goods .. as suggested by me. Hence, we stayed late than expected.
But it was all worth it.

fDaghan jud!

Thank you so much for my 2011 Dearest Lord!

natapos ko rin! ;)

November 2011

A lot of great things in November!

A number of loads in teaching ... as they say, bring it on second semester!

I was a jetsetter in November as I went to Manila for two weekends for the Bar Exams - to support my dear friends, especially Elaine, who took the Bar Exams. The system was all new for me .. I wasn't even able to see some of my barrister friends. But I hope they know that they continue to be in my prayers.

Mga "tambays" sa HQ

I was a tambay at the HQ for the first Sunday.

Thereafter, I was so happy to tag along with my classmates Karla, Norliza, Jo Anne and Ate Debs as we trooped to the Manila Ocean Park.

"wacky" daw!

For the last Sunday, I woke really early for the love of Elaine (hehe) and to just be there for my friends.

Good morning, world!

It was Bar Ops with Maan and Martin most of the time - for the love Elaine, hehe. It was also my first time to visit Dangwa, also known as Manila Flower Center. Believe me if I say how happy I was when I realized that Manila Flower Center is the scientific name of Dangwa, hehe.

Bar ops

Fresh from Dangwa!

Of course, free dinner with LA friends was really enjoyable. And it was really nice to see LA Residents, Foundation Members and Barristers ;)

I <3 Lakas Atenista!

The next day was a trip to whatever with Maan and Elaine. With these two, food trip galore jud! I love the panna cotta of Kiss the Cook (but I did no kiss the cook, ha!). It was also a trip in the truest sense since we took public transportation - LRT, jeep and trisikad! From Quezon City, we reached Tutuban! It was such a delight that we were able to find the way from Tutuban all the way to 168. We did not shop that much .. although, I think Maan did. And siyempre, gutom uli .. so we went to Wa Ying! Yum, Yum!

Makalaway!

We <3 Chocolate!

This month, I also started to join Hann's weekly Bible Group @ SGD!

October 2011

Ooooh .. October!

After a simple September, it was owesome October!

I was pretty much busy with the practices and preparation for the Presentation for the Law School Alumni Homecoming. Juggling the practices and soliciting for funds and buying snacks with work and teaching was quite a task.

But it all paid off since we placed first! Admittedly, I had my errors during the presentation itself. But looking at the video, hindi pala obvious .. buti na lang. We laughed our hearts off looking our presentation and being proud because it was really bongga! Hehe! More than that, I was happy that I get to hang out with law school friends as well as with Ma'am Aster and Ma'am Te ;) (Photos courtesy of Marlyn Europa & Le Photographe)

Another highlight of my October is seeing my Accountancy students pass the Board exams. Although I only taught them one subject, Negotiable Instruments, I was just so happy for them.

Of course, I could not blog October without letting the whole world now about the new borns - Clangski and Boss Ogie's Bamut, Ondi's baby and of course, my imported niece - Ally!

October was truly Owesome!

September

Honestly speaking, I had no major event in September - just small stuffs which make a one colorful life!

I went to Manila for a weekend trip because I bought a Piso-Fare ticket almost a year ago and I used it. Otherwise, sayang. At the time I bought the ticket, there was still yet no announcement that the Bar Exams will be moved to November. That's why I bought the ticket ;)

Nevertheless, it was worth a trip since my mom was in Manila that time so I just spent time with her :)

Aside from this, I got busy with small stuffs - teaching and clients and pleadings, which made me somewhat tired ..

Unfortunately, I don't have any picture for this month ;) Oh well, I'll keep the memories in my heart! Naks Fried Chicken, hehe!

August 2011

My dad turned 61. And we just had some food to celebrate with a "recycled" tarp to boot!

Mighty Sixty-One

Another 5k run with Phoenix .. and this was my last fun run in 2011! Hehe

Gipaningot intawon!

I also had a Kadayawan Escapade with dear friends Maan and Elaine. Despite the heat and walking galore, I enjoyed it a lot! I haven't experienced Kadayawan in a long time. I guess the last time was when I participated in the Indak-indak when I was still in high school .. a long time ago .. haha!

Kadayawan Beauties!

Another highlight for my August was our trip to Singapore where my mom celebrated her birthday. Aside from that, it was bonding time with my "imported from Australia" sister! Thank you Lord that despite my katangahan moment - naiwan ang pocket money due to miscommunication - everything went well!

We stayed at a very nice yet cheap inn, which was pretty much accessible. We had fun commuting around Singapore. And of course, we went to Universal Studios Singapore! Yahoo! Here are a few pictures ...

July 2011

I had my third fun run with Run United - another 5k!

JJ and his first 21k medal with Coach Rio and me!

Runners kunuhay!

Aside from that, another highlight for me was a short and quick get-together with Team Palisades!

@ Trellis

My mother was hospitalized for a few day but it's great that it was not a major health issue.
It was also this month when a friend lost his father.

June 2011

Tapusin ang sinimulan ...

Another semester begins, another set of students! I guess this has been my "fully loaded" semester as I taught 20 units all in all - 18 in undergrad and 2 in law school Challenging indeed!

I also had my second fun run as I joined the 5k in the Hero's Race. Unfortunately, I can't upload the pictures in my phone. And I don't know why it does not work .. tsk, tsk!

Aside from another semester, I am just happy that my dear friends in Law School opened their own firm! Ayos!

But this June ended with a sad note for Dabawenyos with the flash floods in Matina ...

May 2011

After the month long vacation, I had some catching up to do. Positive results came out with a number of cases and salamat jud Lord. I attended a couple of weddings and I was happy in the company of people who are dear to me.

I guess the highlight for this month was the Petstacular event organized by my brother and sister. It was a first for them to hold this event. There were a number of obstacles along the way but GOD pulled them through. I was happy I got to participate in a fun run, after a long time. This time I ran with my dad, Allan and Blossom.
